Crestline is situated about midway between Pittsburgh and Chicago in Crestline, Ohio, and will maintain over 1,600 vehicles. In 1849, Pennsy officers developed plans to construct a repair facility at Altoona. Construction started in 1850, and shortly, a number of small buildings housed a machine shop, woodworking store, blacksmith shop, locomotive restore shop, and foundry. These amenities were later demolished to make room for continuing growth. As of 2020 the one operable Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotive is class B4a engine # 643, in-built July 1901 in Altoona.
